Literacy Volunteers Announces Top Slam Artists to Perform at Rhythm and Rhyme – A Slam/Jam festival Celebrating Education, Community and the Arts.

 

Iyaba Ibo Mandingo, artist, poet, painter, playwright and actor will present excerpts from his award-winning solo show unFRAMED, described as "a tour de force...poetry, painting and beguiling recitations are the hallmark of this gifted artist."  Iyaba, a two-time Connecticut Grand Slam champion appears regularly as a performance poet in venues across the United States and abroad, including Nuyorican Poetry Café, Brooklyn Moon, and Next Door Café. Evan Knoll is an up and coming youth poet from Middletown, Connecticut - a two time competitor at Brave New Voices, where he represented the One Word Connecticut youth poetry team. He is well know face at competitions and workshops, including the Nuyorican summer slam, Wesleyan Weslam poetry series and the Arts Explorers program for CT middle schools. Andre Rainey – better known as Noodle the Innocent Child – is sparking a much-needed resurrection for positive and inspirational Hip Hop. Born in New York, Noodle has been greatly inspired by the cultural and artistic diversity that has always surrounded him. Having graced countless clubs in New York, Las Vegas and California and supported the likes of KRS One, Joe Budden and Immortal Technique, Noodle has had a rare opportunity to explore both the underground and the mainstream sides of the rap game. Noodle’s debut solo project - It’s A N00 Day! album showcases uplifting, insightful and feel-good music at its best. This artist certainly marks a N00 day for Hip Hop.
